Shuraik narrates – I went to visit Sulaiman Al-A’mash when he was ill with the illness that took his life. Ibn Abi Leyla, Ibn Sheyrama, and Abu Hanifa entered the house.

Abu Hanifa approached Sulaiman Al-A’mash and said, “O Sulaiman! Be pious!
Understand that you are about to enter the first day of the Hereafter and the last
day of this life. You used to narrate many traditions about Ali b. Abi Talib, and it
would be better for you if you did not do this.

Sulaiman replied – How dare you say something like this to me? Then
Sulaiman asked us to help him sit him up, so we did.

Then he (Sulaiman) said to Abu Hanifa – Abu Motawakkel AI-Naji told me that he heard Abu Saeed aI-Khudri narrate from the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) who said, ‘On the Day of Judgement, Allah will tell me and Ali b. Abi Talib to take everyone who loved us to Paradise, and to take everyone who hated us to Hell, “Cast you two every unbeliever rebel into Hell” (Surah Qaaf (50):24).

Then Abu Hanifa said to us – Let’s go. There is nothing worse than this.

Sulaiman said – Faz’l told me that he asked Imam Hasan b. Ali (a.s.) to explain who the unbeliever (kaffaar) and the rebel (aneed) are in this verse. And Imam Hasan b. Ali (a.s.) replied:
‘Unbelievers (kaffaar) are those who do not believe in my grandfather (Prophet (s.a.w.a.), and rebels (aneed) are those who deny the rights of my father, Ali b. Abi Talib (a.s.).’
